Preparing for Your Medicare Plan Review: What to Bring and What to Consider

Aug 17
2 min read

Whether you're reviewing your Medicare coverage during Annual Enrollment Period or meeting with a licensed insurance agent for the first time, a little preparation can help you get the most from your appointment.

Having a few key documents on hand and taking a few minutes to think about how your healthcare can help ensure your Medicare coverage continues to meet your needs.

What to Bring

To help us provide personalized guidance, please bring or have access to the following:

  • Your Medicare card (if applicable)

  • Your current Medicare plan information (if applicable)

  • A list of your prescription medications, including dosages

  • Your preferred pharmacy

  • A list of your doctors and specialists

  • Your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), if you've received it

  • Any questions or concerns you'd like to discuss

Tip: If you're unsure whether something is important, bring it along. It's always better to have more information than not enough.

Things to Think About Before Your Appointment

A Medicare review isn't just about comparing plans. It's an opportunity to make sure your current coverage still aligns with your healthcare needs and financial priorities.

Have your healthcare needs changed?

Think about whether you've:

  • Started taking new medications

  • Been diagnosed with a new health condition

  • Begun seeing new doctors or specialists

  • Anticipate medical procedures or ongoing treatment in the coming year

Has your current plan changed?

Each year, Medicare plans may update their:

  • Monthly premiums

  • Deductibles and copays

  • Prescription drug coverage

  • Provider and pharmacy networks

  • Supplemental benefits

A personalized coverage review can help you understand what's changed, answer your questions, and determine whether your current plan is still the right fit.

What questions do you have?

Write down any questions before your appointment so you don't forget to ask them. No question is too small. Our goal is to help you better understand your Medicare coverage and the options available to you.

What to Expect During Your Medicare Plan Review

Your appointment is designed to help you make informed decisions — not to pressure you into changing plans.

During your review, we'll:

  • Review your current Medicare coverage

  • Discuss any changes that may affect you

  • Answer your Medicare questions

  • Compare available options when appropriate

  • Help you determine whether your current plan still meets your needs

The goal of your appointment is to help you make an informed decision about your Medicare coverage.  In some cases, that may mean exploring different options. In others, it simply means confirming that your current plan continues to be a good fit. Either way, you'll leave with a better understanding of your coverage and greater confidence in your decision.
